Who owns G&W Electric?
G&W Electric is an independent, privately held electrical-power-equipment manufacturer founded in 1905 and headquartered in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
The company marked 120 years in 2025. It is not a subsidiary of a larger power-management group — it builds its medium-voltage switchgear, reclosers, current limiters, and cable accessories under its own name.
What medium-voltage equipment does Hawk source from G&W Electric?
Hawk sources G&W Electric medium-voltage switchgear — Trident solid-dielectric load-and-fault-interrupting switchgear and SF6 load-break switches — Viper solid-dielectric reclosers, CLiP commutating current-limiting protectors, and distribution and transmission cable accessories: terminations and joints to IEEE 386 and IEEE 404.

What is the G&W Viper recloser?
The Viper is G&W Electric's solid-dielectric recloser family. It pairs electronically controlled vacuum fault interrupters with maintenance-free solid-dielectric insulation in single-phase and three-phase configurations.
Viper reclosers are factory-tested to IEEE C37.60 / IEC 62271-111. The 72.5 kV Viper-HV is a pole-mounted solid-dielectric recloser for sub-transmission grid protection.
What is the G&W CLiP current-limiting protector?
The CLiP is G&W Electric's commutating current-limiting protector. A continuous busbar carries normal load current and commutates to a parallel current-limiting fuse during a fault, interrupting fault current at ultra-high speed.
It is applied to power-transformer protection, system upgrades, reactor bypass, cogeneration tie-ins, and bus-tie closing.
